Chef Blaque Announced as Grand Marshal of the 91st Chicago Thanksgiving Parade Presented by Forvis Mazars
Chicago, IL — November 24, 2025 — The 91st Chicago Thanksgiving Parade, presented by Forvis Mazars, is thrilled to announce that award-winning baker and sugar artist Maurice “Chef Blaque” Shelton will serve as this year’s Grand Marshal. A product of the Bronzeville neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, Chef Blaque’s rise from local baker to national TV personality has made him one of the most influential culinary figures in the Midwest.
Chef Blaque, who now lives in Gary, Indiana, is best known for his innovative and visually stunning edible art. As the founder of Steel City Bakery and Black Rose Pastries, Chef Blaque has built a reputation for creating hyper-realistic sculpted cakes, intricately detailed sugar art, and large-scale gingerbread engineering that have captivated audiences across the globe. His work blends creativity, precision, and cultural storytelling, making him a standout figure in the world of baking and pastry.
In addition to his bakeries, Chef Blaque has appeared on multiple nationally televised culinary competitions. He gained widespread recognition as the winner of Netflix’s Sugar Rush, and has also competed on several Food Network shows, including The Big Bake, Cakealikes, Macy’s Thanksgiving Cake Spectacular, and Elf on the Shelf: Sweet Showdown. Chef Blaque’s appearance on Disney+’s Foodtastic showcased his impressive Black Panther-inspired cake design, further cementing his status as a sought-after pastry artist. His impressive body of work and charisma have made him a favorite on TV, inspiring both fellow chefs and food lovers alike.
“I’m beyond excited and honored to be named Grand Marshal of the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade,” said Chef Blaque. “This city gave me my foundation, and to be able to give back as Grand Marshal during such a beloved event is a full-circle moment for me. Chicago’s rich culture and resilience are reflected in everything I do, from my pastries to my community work.”
Chef Blaque’s influence extends beyond the screen. A passionate educator and advocate, he is committed to expanding access to culinary education, especially in underserved communities. Through his nonprofit Metro Bake & Create, Chef Blaque leads workshops and youth programs that introduce baking, sugar art, and culinary science to young aspiring chefs. His educational initiatives often emphasize STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) through the lens of food, giving students a unique and hands-on way to explore these subjects.
As Grand Marshal, Chef Blaque will join the Parade North on State Street on Thanksgiving Day, bringing his vibrant energy, culinary expertise, and love for Chicago’s rich cultural history to the event.
