The Jesse White Tumblers — Chicago’s High-Flying Tradition of Talent and Tenacity
Chicago, IL – November 13, 2025
No sound electrifies State Street quite like the thunderous applause that follows a flip, twist, and perfect landing from the Jesse White Tumblers. For more than half a century, this legendary Chicago group has wowed crowds at the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade, combining athleticism, discipline, and heart into one unforgettable performance. Their high-flying acrobatics have become a parade staple—a celebration of what can be achieved through dedication, teamwork, and community spirit.
Founded in 1959 by Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, the troupe began as a neighborhood initiative to keep young people focused on positive goals. What started with a handful of athletes on Chicago’s near north side grew into a nationally recognized program that has shaped the lives of more than 18,000 youth. The Jesse White Tumbling Team Foundation promotes education, self-discipline, and leadership, offering scholarships, tutoring, and mentorship alongside its renowned acrobatic training. The goal has always been clear: to help young people reach new heights both on and off the mat.
The tumblers’ skill set is the definition of precision and flair—gymnastic tumbling, hand balancing, aerial flips, and synchronized choreography that seem to defy gravity itself. Their performances are equal parts sport and art, requiring years of practice, physical strength, and mental focus. But the real magic lies in their unity; each member knows their success depends on trust, timing, and teamwork—values they carry into classrooms and careers long after their final routine.
With over 1,500 appearances each year, from local block parties to NFL halftime shows and international showcases, the Jesse White Tumblers are one of the most visible and beloved performance teams in the nation. Yet no stage shines brighter for them than Chicago’s State Street on Thanksgiving morning. As they sprint into formation, the crowd’s anticipation builds—then erupts in cheers as the first series of flips begins. The Jesse White Tumblers don’t just perform; they inspire, embodying the city’s energy, resilience, and boundless pride with every leap through the air.
